| Swinging into the blog space baby! |
Hey, my name is Chris and despite having constant thoughts and opinions, I have always had trouble expressing any of them. So this blog exists for me to discuss what interests me, help refine how these thoughts and ideas are articulated, and hopefully give those reading my posts a better understanding of who I am. Things I am passionate about include but are not limited to: television shows, music (mostly hip-hop), Japanese superheroes, anime, film, American superheroes, podcasts, and multiple varieties of giant robots.
On a side note, I want to discuss the name of this blog: Swing Kick. Originally the plan was to name this project/open online diary Jump Kick, which ties into my personal belief that almost every work of fiction could be improved by having a character perform a jump kick. However, it turns out that jumpkick.blogspot.com was already taken and was created in 2006 to track the user's dieting and weight loss. Since the site has not been updated since April 2, 2006, I would like to think that the creator crushed their fitness goals so hard that there was no point in making any more posts. While heartbroken that my ideal name is forever out of reach the happy, assumed fate of this stranger does give me some solace. Also they posted some recipes that seem pretty tasty so it seems they had some worthwhile content.
Trying variations of Jump Kick, such as Jumping Kick and Jump n Kick also proved unsuccessful. So I decided to go with Swing Kick since it is a.) close enough to a jump kick that it still fits into what I wanted and b.) is a reference to a move in Marvel's Spider-Man, which I just completed and am in love with. Was going from a broad roadmap of what this blog is intended for into a story about how I settled for one silly name over another silly name a bit scatter shot? Yes. Is this the style that will permeate throughout future posts? Quite possibly. Will it still be a fun thing for me to write and for you to read? Hell yeah it hopefully will be.
